Love them or hate them, there’s no escaping the Christmas songs now that we’re in the throws of the Christmas rush… unless you’re playing #Whamageddon2019 this year. In which case, god speed!

The novelty of Christmas music playlists hasn’t quite worn off yet around the office, so here’s the lowdown on what the team will be playing (and skipping) this silly season. We present to you the Clearbox Jukebox: Festive Edition. Take it away team…

DaniI absolutely love a Christmas carol, they have been part of my Christmas celebrations for as long as I can remember and conjure up so many lovely childhood memories. 'Silent Night’ and ‘O Holy Night’ are two firm favourites. They have a majestic quality with beautiful lyrics and the key change in the latter never fails to send tingles down my spine. I also have to give an honourable mention to Mariah Carey’s 'All I Want For Christmas’ as it’s an iconic tune that always gets me into the festive spirit. The song I dread hearing every year? 'I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus', it’s very annoying and the lyrics are a tad worrisome…

My favourite Christmas song has to be Driving Home For Christmas. It’s just so lovely and admittedly I always blasted it every time I was coming home from uni in Edinburgh at Christmas time - embarrassing I know. To be honest I love them all except Jingle Bells, oh the pain I feel when I hear that song. Two years spent working in retail means you never, never want to hear Jingle Bells again.

It’s not my favourite, but Kelly Clarkson’s Underneath the Tree is a tune, and I have no shame saying that. And Joy to the World all day every day. Keep your Mary’s Boy Child away from me though - no thanks.

One thing people don’t know about me is that I have a Christmas Spotify playlist that I have been working on for over ten years, and is a huge reason why I will always be loyal to Spotify. I have every xmas song released, acoustic cover and full-length xmas album you could imagine detailed. Aside from the absolute classics (Mariah is a classic), there’s two songs vying for my top spot, Jessie J’s ‘Man With the Bag’ and Kylie Minogue’s ‘100 Degrees’.

I absolutely cannot stand any of the fifteen million covers of ‘Baby It’s Cold Outside’. Not just because it’s misogynistic and non-consensual, but because it’s awful. Also, every time Noddy Holder screams ‘It’s Christmassssss’, I wish it wasn’t. No one wants that, Noddy.

I think the one that gets me in the Christmas spirt the most is Fairytale of New York - I know it’s so over played but I love it and it always makes me think of home. The song I dread hearing is East 17’s Stay Another Day - it’s just a terrible song and not in a good way. It 100% get’s turned over as soon as I comes on - thank u, next.

My favourite Christmas song is ‘I want a hippopotamus for Christmas’ by Gayla Peevey, this has become a recent favourite for me, as my daughter loves dancing and singing to it and I can join in with her, it's just light hearted and fun (I find a lot of the Christmas songs a bit depressing). Which leads me to my least favourite song, Wham, 'Last Christmas', I am sorry but I worked in retail for 7 years and from mid November to January I listened to this at least 4 times a day, so for me, it is over played and just a bit depressing…not for me, I need the Christmas cheer!

I love classic Christmas songs like White Christmas, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas or Silver Bells. They're beautiful songs that warm the heart. I am really not a fan of pop Christmas sounds and don’t enjoy when artists put out weird Christmas songs just to make an extra dollar. I absolutely hate the song "Do they know it’s Christmas Time.”

Favourite song: Shakin’ Steven’s Merry Christmas Everybody. Fun Fact: my fam and I met him in Portugal doing a shoot for OK! Magazine circa 2003…

HATE I want a hippopotamus for Christmas- no need.

In general, I LOVE a Christmas song. November 1st? Whip on that playlist.

As Christmas songs go, All I Want For Christmas Is You is a pretty definitive classic. Special shout out to Rod Stewart’s Great American Songbook and Destiny’s Child’s 8 Days Of Christmas album - both of which bring the childhood festive nostalgia factor each year!

I’m not a fan of You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch. Love the movie, hate the song - it’s a bit miserable in among so many cheery songs at this time of year. Can’t be having that…

It’s hard to do a bad Christmas song but I see Justin Bieber is having a decent stab at it! My favourite Christmas song is Silent Night because it reminds me of when my first son was born. He came along on Christmas Eve night and the song always makes me shed a tear or two. Not so tender and mild now at the ripe old age of 13! Send help!

The song that gets me in the Christmassy mood HAS to be Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree. It just reminds me of Home Alone (which is my favourite Christmas movie) and I’m instantly festive.

Unpopular opinion I’m sure but I cannot stand the song Driving Home For Christmas by Chris Rea, for some reason it gives me the creeps? I’m not sure why but I always skip that one when it appears on a Christmas playlist.

My all time favourite Christmas song (which I only discovered last year) has to be "Is That You Santa Claus?” by Louis Armstrong, as it is simply a banger. My least favourite then is “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas”, as to put it politely, it doesn’t exactly get me in the Christmas spirit.
