The Clearbox Weekly - 11th April

11. 04. 2014
Welcome to your weekend - here's a little taster of what we've been up to this week at Clearbox Towers. Enjoy! We made our first visit to the HUB in Belfast's Cathedral Quarter this week, home to the cool businesses and ideas that are part of the Invest NI Propel Programme for High Growth Start Ups. We could tell you about some of the things we saw in development there, but we might have to kill you…We also got involved in the Belfast Cycle Challenge. Teaming up with the guys from Jyrobike, we went for a ride along the beautiful Holywood coast. You can see a quick snap we took during the ride here. While we're talking about cycling, we also released a sneak peek of the Jyrobike kids and adults bicycles this week. Check out the first render of the Control Hub for Jyrobike here and see the prototype of the adult bike working in all its gyroscopic glory here!Stuff we've lovedA beekeeper in China covered himself in half a million bees to promote his honey products. The stunt, known as 'bee bearding', saw the honey merchant cover himself in 100lbs of bees. It wasn't enough to break the world record for bee bearding, but it has got the internet talking about him. Job done, albeit painfully. After reaching the first Irish Cup Final for 25 years, Ballymena United fans campaigned on social media for the club to play the Final in a kit similar to the strip of 1989. The club listened, creating a special edition Cup Final shirt. One of the team here is already in the queue to buy one - pics to follow next week!Last week, Hollywood star James Franco was caught sending inappropriate twitter & Instagram messages to a 17 year old girl from Scotland. After a week of outrage in the Daily Mail comments, it turns out that the whole thing was a stunt for his latest movie. Interesting tactic, James…Switching our focus from PR to advertising for a second, we think the new ad campaign from Ryanair (its first TV campaign for 25 years) is unexpectedly brilliant. It ticks all the boxes - creative, slick and totally against the company image. And, best of all, it doesn't feature anyone dressed as a Leprechaun. Finally, there was much sadness in parts of the Clearbox office this week when childhood hero and wrestling legend, The Ultimate Warrior, passed away. RIP Warrior, shake the ropes in the big ring in the sky! That's all for now - have a good weekend and enjoy this classic anthem, which is 20 years old today, from (probably) the greatest band in the history of music.
