Amazon LGBT+ Reading Roadshow

Summer 2019

In the summer of 2019, we helped Amazon launch the brilliant LGBT+ Reading Roadshow, visiting secondary schools around the country to celebrate the importance of diversity and inclusion through literature.

Created in partnership with LGBT+ education charity Just Like Us and LGBT+ media outlet Pink News, the Amazon team ran a series of inclusivity workshops and talks at schools across the country and donated free, age-appropriate and expert-approved books on LGBT+ themes to school libraries.

Will Young and Chris Sweeney, co-creators of the Homo Sapiens podcast, hosted a special launch event at Petchey Academy in East London, where they were joined by glamazon volunteers (Amazon's LGBT+ employee affinity group), Just Like Us ambassadors and the Mayor of Hackney Philip Glanville. After the workshop and book reading, students from Petchey Academy also had the chance to play games, listen to music and win prizes at the Amazon Treasure Truck.

The roadshow then toured the UK and Clearbox supported the Amazon team through press office engagement with key regional media. The stories we worked on included a study highlighting how many teachers in the UK had witnessed homophobic bullying, created in partnership with Just Like Us. The Clearbox team also helped Amazon celebrate a £5,000 donation to Manchester's Pride Trust.
