We're excited to welcome Rachel, an Interactive Media student at Ulster University, for a week-long placement at Clearbox. Have a read to find out more about her - take it away, Rachel!
Hi everyone! I’m Rachel, and I’m with Clearbox for a week-long placement to learn more about everything PR and marketing! I’m so excited to get stuck in, but before that, let me tell you a bit about me and why I set my sights on Clearbox.
I am currently a second-year student at Ulster University, studying Interactive Media. Don’t worry no one ever knows what that means, but basically, I do a bit of everything like cinematography, coding, VR, graphic design and even more. I’ve gravitated towards graphic design as I’ve always been creative, and to be honest the other stuff was not fun, wouldn’t recommend. Alongside university, I work part-time in an ice cream shop in Ballymena, and don’t get me wrong I love scooping ice creams and being able to play Papa’s freezeria in real life, but my dream is to work as a graphic designer or content creator in a design agency.
That’s why Clearbox stood out to me, I came across them through their amazing TikTok account and immediately had to stalk them to find out more. It looked like such a fun and exciting place to work, and I’m pleased to say it really is. I also love that it’s a collaborative space where everyone can work on their own projects but also get opinions and advice from others. Everyone has their own little niche that comes together to create some really awesome outcomes.
Outside of university and my part-time job, I spend my time watching TV shows and crocheting. Yes, you read that right I am a 20-year-old girl who would rather sit at home and crochet than go out. I go through phases of learning new creative skills, as I am a DIY queen, so if it’s possible for me to do myself I will be doing it. Whether it’s painting furniture in the house, crocheting my own clothes, or even tinting my eyebrows.
Random facts about me are that I am a twin, so I have a twin brother, and trust me you won’t know rage like it. However, I feel like it made me a stronger person so now I can take on anything lol. Also even more random, I get hiccups every couple of hours except its always only ever ONE singular hiccup. I don’t know why, should probably get that checked out…
Moving on, as I said Clearbox is really like a dream place for me to learn more about this incredible industry and how my little self can fit into it. I’m beyond excited to spend my week here and learn lots from the lovely team!
What is your dream Glastonbury line-up?
Very random mix, but first off, I would pick Noah Kahan. He is like a comedian and singer all in one, I would go to every one of his concerts if I could. Next, I would choose Picture This, their music is just so catchy, and I can sing my wee heart out to them. Finally, it would have to be old school Jason Derulo. None of the new stuff, I’m thinking more like Ridin’ Solo or Whatcha Say.
What is your fantasy dinner menu? Three courses, each from a different restaurant, any restaurants in the world.
For a starter every time I would choose a cheesy garlic bread. The cheesier the better. For a main I would choose a Chinese. Chips, fried rice, chow mein noodles and curry sauce, can’t beat it. I’m not really a dessert person but I do have a really sweet tooth. I would probably prefer an ice-cream covered in white chocolate sauce. White chocolate is the best, don’t @ me.
